Art Handler
May 6, 1960 – September 13, 2020
Elimelech Palarca, Dodong to family, friends, and colleagues, was an art handler known for his kindness and generosity, and also for his dedication to the world of visual arts.
He was born in San Benito, Surigao del Norte to Fortunato and Manuelita Palarca. He graduated from Pio Del Pilar High School, Makati City, in 1978, and later earned a civil technician diploma, a three-year course at the Technological University of the Philippines in Manila.
He worked as the senior art handler for Silverlens Gallery, and was an integral part of it from the very start. Palarca helped director Isa Lorenzo build it from the ground up from 2004, beginning as a driver and then as all-around man.
He was known by the artists he worked with for his kindness and generosity, and also for his dedication to his duties, helping set the standard that the gallery came to be known for. He was with Silverlens for fifteen years until his demise.
Lorenzo wrote in tribute: “Rest in Peace, Dodong. Maraming maraming salamat sa tulong at pagmamahal na binuhos mo sa akin at sa gallery. Hindi kita malilimutan.”
