Television production manager, producer
April 12, 1965 – July 22, 2020
Maria Victoria H. Oducayen (April 12, 1965 – July 22, 2020) was a production manager and producer at ABS-CBN. Her career in television production spanned more than three decades. It began after college in September 1986, back when the said network had just been rebuilt (after having been seized months before by military reformists) following the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
From there, Oducayen went on to work on a number of the network’s projects—mostly television dramas called “teleseryes” aired in noontime or prime time due to their popularity among viewers—such as Marinella (1999-2001); Maalaala Mo Kaya “Unan” Episode (2003); The Bud Brothers Series (2009); Impostor (2010); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Love is Only in the Movies (2010); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Kristine (2010-2011); Angelito: Batang Ama (2011-2012); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Hiyas (2012); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Lumayo Ka man sa Akin (2012); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Pintada (2012); Annaliza (2013-2014); Moon of Desire (2014); Hawak Kamay (2014); Be My Lady (2016); Magpahanggang Wakas (2016-2017); Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi (2018); and Pamilya Ko (2019–).
Oducayen’s death drew criticism against what some believed to be a government crackdown on the ABS-CBN media network that resulted in the shutdown of its TV operations. Critics point out that Oducayen died out of grief over the TV station’s closure which resulted in job losses for some 11,000 workers including Oducayen.
